Collaborative, child centered and resolution-focused mediation

Mediation is a method of resolving issues, by involving a neutral third-party to facilitate discussions between you and your former partner.

Mediation can assist you to not only discuss matters but to reach a deeper understanding of the issues between you and what is needed to reach resolution.  At Hansen Family Law, we believe mediation is a meeting of the minds, where we support you to come to an agreement, over which you have ownership, together.

When it comes to parenting, one of the greatest concerns of parents is the impact of ongoing conflict on their children. Agreements that are reached together are, quite simply, more likely to work.

We can assist in mediation for property and parenting as either your lawyer or as a mediator.

Our Director, Rebecca Hansen is both a Nationally Accredited Mediator and a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP). Rebecca can conduct both property and parenting mediations with the ability to issue a s60I certificate in parenting matters, when required.

What is Child Inclusive Mediation?

Child Inclusive Mediation is an approach that brings your child’s voice into the dispute resolution process. A child consultant (or developmental specialist) meets with your child to encounter their needs and experiences. They then provide feedback during the mediation in a way that can be used by the parents and the practitioners they are working with, to enrich and inform their decision making.

Child Inclusive Mediation is not about asking your children who they want to live with or inviting them to make any decisions. The child consultant is looking to understand your child’s lived experience of your separation and assist the parties in a supportive and productive way to reflect on this, creating an enhanced and motivated child focus.

We can offer co-mediation with a child psychologist

Hansen Family Law can provide co-mediation with a child psychologist. The recent changes to the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) call for a careful consideration of your child’s best interests and developmental needs when considering parenting arrangements. A child psychologist can offer valuable insights when considering proposed arrangements.
